Support Worker – Oswestry (Part Time and Full Time Available!)

Are you a compassionate and motivated Support Worker, currently looking for a new role to support service users with learning disabilities and mental health needs in the Oswestry area?

If that sounds like you, I am currently recruiting on the behalf of my well-established client who provide support throughout the region to service users with learning disabilities, autism and those with mental health needs through their multiple supported living projects.

My client is a registered charity and strives to promote the service users’ independence through their person-centred approach, supporting their service users to live the life they choose.

My client is looking for experienced individuals who always strive to provide the best support possible to the service users with a unique and tailored approach, specialised to each individual.

 

Overview

  • Salary:
    • Days with Sleep-Ins > £26,155 (Including £189 Per Month for 3 Sleep-Ins £23,887 Basic)
    • Waking Nights > £25,837.50
  • Hours of Work – Full Time (37.5hrs) and Part Time Permanent Positions Available
  • Shifts – Short and Long Days with Occasional Sleep-Ins OR Waking Nights
  • Area – Oswestry, Shropshire

 

Responsibilities

  • Supporting service users to live the independent life they choose, utilising a person centred and tailored approach.
  • Supporting service users to access their local community, this may be for day’s away, attending social clubs, or helping them to complete their shopping.
  • Ensuring care and support plans are always followed and reporting any changes / incidents etc to management.
  • Acting in a mentoring capacity to support the service users to develop their independent living skills.
  • You may be required to manage the service user’s medication and provide personal care.
  • General duties around the home, light housekeeping and keeping the environment clean, tidy and presentable.
  • Supporting with service users with cooking at mealtimes and ensuring they can access food and drinks throughout the day.

 

Skills

  • The most vital skills for a support worker, is someone that is compassionate, caring, empathetic and a team player.
  • If you hold your any NVQ’s or care related qualification such as a care certificate these will benefit your application however are not a requirement.
  • Flexibility is a must; no two days are the same and you must be able think on our feet and adjust your approach as you go.
  • Basic IT skills are essential, you will be working on computers everyday so basic knowledge of Microsoft and the windows system is crucial.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team working skills are a must.

  • Salary – Support Worker salary starts at £19,110 per annum - £9.80 per hour.
  • Hours – 37.5 hours or part time hours available.
  • Shifts – Long Days and Permanent Nights available as well as additional payments for Sleep ins.
  • Area – Stockport, Greater Manchester.  

Responsibilities – Support Worker – Learning Disabilities

  • Support new Team Leaders and care staff in the completion of induction programs, training and competency assessment.
  • To provide a caring, supportive and nurturing environment in which service users can feel secure and free from harm.
  • Establishing positive relationships with service users and always offering them unconditional and positive regard.
  • Helping service users gain self-control by challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding acceptable, pro-social conduct.
  • Ensuring that each person’s care plan is followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needs.
  • Attending to practical matters in relation to helping service users to cook, clean and personal care.
  • To act as a key worker or co-worker for the service user to ensure that their young care plans are up to date and that all their care needs are being met.
  • To provide a positive role model to be able to offer advice, guidance and assistance where appropriate.

Skills required – Support Worker – Learning Disabilities

  • Passion to help others.
  • Caring nature and willing to go the extra mile to support others.
  • A passion to learn and gain an understanding of emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties.
  • Basic IT skills and basic computer programmes such as word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Full driving licence desirable but not essential
  • Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care or willingness to work towards.
  • A commutable distance from Stockport Greater Manchester.
