Sounds like you? The client that I am recruiting on the behalf of is a national mental healthcare provider who operates services across the UK. The successful candidate will work at their service location in the Old Trafford, Greater Manchester area on day shifts as part of their knowledgeable and friendly team that prides themselves on the support, they provide to the service users.

As a Senior Support Worker, you will act as the 1st line of enquiry for Support Workers that are on your shift, using your past experience and knowledge to guide more junior members of the team acting as a role model promoting best practices and providing the highest levels of care to the service users.

 

Overview

  • Salary – £23,023 Per Annum
  • Hours of Work – Full Time Permanent Position (38.5 Hrs Per Week)
  • Shifts – Rotating Shift Pattern (Week One – 3 Shifts, Week Two – 4 Shifts) / Starting 07:45AM (12 Hours Per Day)
  • Area – Old Trafford, Greater Manchester

 

Responsibilities

  • Promoting a developmental and supportive environment for the service users to reach their potential through utilising your patience and compassion.
  • Monitoring the service users’ condition and mental state, ensuring that accurate records are kept and that any changes are reported to the senior team.
  • Communicating with the service users’ family members, ensuring they remain updated and aware of their relative’s condition.
  • Supporting the service users in the engagement of daily living activities.
  • Administering medication when required, ensuring that accurate dosages are administered, and records are kept.
  • Operating in a supportive role, being available to talk through any concerns or worries the service users may be experiencing and reassuring and comforting them as well as reporting any severe concerns to the management team.
  • Safeguarding the service users, ensuring that the service users feel they are in a safe and comfortable place.
  • Acting as a role model for the other members of staff on the shift, offering your previous experience and knowledge gained to support the development of the team.
  • Always acting as an advocate for the service users, ensuring that they are aware and feel they have a voice and an input in their care.

 

Skills

  • To be successful you will need to have a genuine interest and passion for working within the health and social care industry, being someone who prides themselves on the care and support service you are providing, always striving for continuous improvement in your approach.
  • Being a team player is a must! Although there will be times that you may be working alone you will be a part of a larger care and support team made up of Support Workers, Senior Support Workers, RMNs and members of the Management team therefore it is essential that you are a team player who works with a collaborative approach.
  • You should either reside in or be able to travel to the Old Trafford, Greater Manchester area – Although a driving license would be beneficial, it is not crucial and so long as you can commute to the service area it is non-essential.
  • Previous experience of working in a Senior Support Worker position, preferably in the mental health sector however applicants from all sectors will be considered.
  • The successful candidate will require excellent English skills (both written and verbal), as you will be using these every day! Whether you are interacting with families, writing care notes, updating internal systems, or speaking with other healthcare professionals and more, these skills are imperative for long term success in the role.

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the registered home manager to ensure that all relevant CQC / local governing policies, regulations, and best practices are implemented and adhered to within the service.
  • Ensure that all members of the care team are aware of their duties and knowledgeable of how to effectively carry them out, completing training and refreshers for existing team members and aiding in the on-boarding process of any new staff members.
  • Promote a caring and compassionate environment for staff members and service users alike, and ensuring effective communication is maintained throughout all levels of the care team.
  • Ensure that accurate and updated records are kept for all matters as required by local governing bodies, CQC etc.
  • Alongside the registered manager and other members of the senior care team, contribute to the care planning function, ensuring that all care plans are accurate and adhere to current regulations and best practices.
  • Assume control of setting rotas for the service, ensuring that the service is always sufficiently staffed, and that best use of the available budgetary limits is utilised.
  • Ensure that the health and safety standards are maintained in accordance with internal policies and procedures through completing walk arounds, inspecting the cleanliness of the service, and monitoring the upkeep and security of the service.

 

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills are a must, you will be interacting with people every day – whether it be service users, staff members of senior management, effective communication is vital for success.
  • Hold an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills are essential as you will be using them daily whether it be creating, rotas, care plans, days out and more!
  • A strong determination for success, with a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Aptitude to ensure that at all times the service fits into the framework of both internal and external policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • You will have a strong record of success within the health and social care industry and experience supporting service users with mental health and / or challenging behaviours.

To manage all aspects of the home and to ensure that CQC regulations and policies are adhered to at all time.

To oversee the financial budgets and staffing for the care packages.

To oversee staff supervisions and staff development.

Skills required – Complex Care Manager – Home Care

You will need to have previous experience as a Manager or a similar senior role within the care industry.

This role requires a minimum of an NVQ/Diploma Level 3 in Health & Social Care qualification.

Completed, working towards, or willing to achieve their NVQ/Diploma Level 5.

The position requires the candidate to be computer literate, good numeracy and literacy skills, with strong interpersonal and customer service skills, and as well as being confident and reliable, they must have a strong desire to succeed.
