Support Worker - Mental Health - Diss, Norfolk.

Gap Healthcare are looking for Support Workers to join a 32 bed, low to medium secure mental health hospital in Diss.

The positions are for day and night staff. The successful candidates will be assisting service users with Autism / ASD, challenging behaviours, learning disabilities and profound and multiple learning disabilities.

Job Role:

• To encourage patients to develop skills in the community setting as part of a full discharge pathway.
• To provide care and treatment for patients with a primary diagnosis of a learning disability and associated mental health problems. This includes autistic spectrum disorders, personality disorders and enduring mental illness.

Individual programmes will vary depending on the patients needs as they progress through medium to low secure and community rehabilitation services.

Main Responsibilities:

• Helping Service Users to maintain all aspects of their domestic lives.
• To empathise and actively listen in a sensitive manner, accessing appropriate additional support where necessary.
• To ensure that Service Users maintain their independence, privacy and high standard of living.

Essential Skills, Experience & Attitude:

• A minimum of 6 months experience working as a Support Worker.
• An understanding of the needs of adults with learning disabilities who are vulnerable within society.
• Able to undertake safe manual handling practices, including possession of current practical manual handling training and certification.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Observant and sensitive to a Service User's needs.
• Ability to work autonomously and productively as part of a team.
• Knowledge of food hygiene, manual handling and health & safety standards and practices.
• A current Enhanced Adult and Child Workforce DBS.
